Architecture is a political intervention. It is an expression of organised thoughts rendered in physical forms.”

Contrary to what one might expect, Ting’s journey into architecture did not necessarily start with a romantic encounter.

Growing up in a modest settlement surrounded by heavy industrial plants and a sprawling seaport, Ting’s early experience of the built environment was influenced by the raw contrast between the very infrastructure he called home and fragments of deserted lands within that were traces of man-made alterations. Combined with Taiwan’s peculiar historic background, it is this collision of spatial and cultural identities that sparked his interests in placemaking, and later brought him to London to complete his master’s degree at the Royal College of Art.

Prior to joining Apt in 2023, Ting worked on projects ranging from rear extensions to mixed-use developments at practices across England, and he is currently part of the Auriens St John’s Wood team that is responsible for its Stage 4 delivery. He is particularly interested in translating complex analyses into excerpts that help inform decision-making.

Like most people, Ting agrees that the best thing about the Star Wars prequels is John Williams’ Duel of the Fates.
